Microsoft & Yahoo Merger: Not Going To Happen

May 5th, 2008 By Nicholas James

Microsoft has finally decided to stop trying to purchase Yahoo after being unable to agree an acceptable sale price. The company had been pursuing Yahoo for 3 months.

Mr Ballmer revealed that Microsoft had raised its original offer to $33/share but Yahoo were insisting on at least $37/share, which was more than the software giant was prepared to pay. The original intentions of the deal was to create a company that was able to compete with Google.

However, Mr Ballmer told his own employees that Microsoft could achieve its goals without Yahoo even if this means a slower pace of development.

Twitter: How Much Is It Worth?

April 28th, 2008 By Nicholas James

Twitter, are out talking to VCs (well its pretty obvious) but according to our source, I know that no deal is close to being completed and the company is still meeting with potential suitors.

Valuations for Twitter are between $60 million to just over $150 million and this is due to the fact that because, of its massive growth rate Twitter is just waiting to go mainstream.

However, I suspect that Twitter won’t take the highest valuation offered but, it seems when Twitter have a round the valuation for the company will be over $60 million.

Blog Updates & More…

April 24th, 2008 By Nicholas James

Its time I brought this blog into the 21st Century so to speak with updates and upgrades to take it to a level where it should be.

So what’s changed?

Finally Upgraded To Wordpress 2.5 - I’m not going to discuss this too much because, its been discussed on virtually every single blog on the net.

New Design - You will start to see it feature more as it is getting its finishing touches with the extra pages being added for instance.

More Plugins - Which is there to benefit the community :) I’ll let you discover them as you are browsing through the blog.

Recent Readers - I thought long and hard about should I/shouldn’t I introduce this, then I thought as well as a few other readers I’ve spoken to this would benefit the community that is why this has been introduced.

Tag Cloud - I’ve never used tags really previously, but since I’ve introduced it I will be using it more frequently to build up the “Tag Cloud” obviously and to show what type of content is popular on the blog, which also can help identify which isn’t being blogged about enough.

…And there are a few other cool new things too! Some, which will be, introduced later then others but while we are still in the process in bringing the blog into the “21st Century” you may notice a few minor changes.

P.S. I’m starting to prepare the contest now; so all interested parties in donating something to the contest please contact me (here) and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

5 Tips After Launching Your Blog

April 17th, 2008 By Nicholas James

So you’ve finally got round to launching a blog and well you’ve come to a point where your unsure what to do next, so this is the idea of these 5 tips to one keep you motivated to continue blogging and also to give you a sense of direction.

Tip 1: Continue Writing

Well this seems quite obvious but readers love fresh content and its something I really need to nail because, some days I will post 3 posts and others none at all. The reason is why because, you want to keep your readers coming back consistently to not only build your traffic but also your community and that is another reason to continue writing.

The aim here is to post as much as you can without going over the top. Basically because, you are a small blogger you need to keep the posts to around 2-3 per week until you keep the readers coming and with that comments so you can increase your posts. Another good tip is to mix in some news and links to other posts with your 2-3 big articles and you will quickly build your archives and continue to bring fresh content to your readers (something I also need to work on with this blog because, its becoming too news orientated and I’ll be drawing back on some of this…you will see with the new blog updates)

Tip 2: Link Exchanges

Its always good to network with other bloggers and if you can build up a nice blogroll for links with other related blogs then that’s even better for you :).

Tip 3: Offer an RSS Feed

This is probably one of the best ways to get your site seen and/or read. Remember, people like to keep things simple and RSS feeds help them do this without having to visit every single blog they like which is why an RSS feed makes life easier for them and also keeps your content read and helps with brand recognition.

Tip 4: Search Engine Optimization

I’m going to go into SEO’ing your blog into much more detail on a later post but for now just ensure your site is SEO friendly so you can start to rank for the better keywords in the search engines.

Tip 5: Blog Carnivals

This is a great way to get your site noticed and something which is really easy to do!
If you have great content on your blog then you need to find a blog carnival that relates to your site and submit an article or even multiple articles.

Those are 5 simple tips to do once you launch your blog. However, you need to be patient as it will take some time for your traffic to start growing, search engines to start ranking you well and obviously time to start making some money from your blog.
