Facebook have finally fixed their scaling issues and will be shortly removing the 5,000 friend limitation, according to our source.

However, people have been public commenting why does this limitation exist at all. 

Facebook have always claimed that they want to make sure that people only add “real” friends and that is why the 5,000 friend restriction is there because; it is highly unlikely a person has over 5,000 “real” friends.

The company also claim that under 1,000 users have 5,000 friends today even with the fact that Facebook has around 70 million active users and the reason that this is becoming so public is because, a large number of bloggers and press are at the 5,000 friend limit.
