April 10th, 2008 By Nicholas James

FilesX, a data recovery startup which makes restoration software that complements other storage systems like tape drives has been acquired by IBM for a reported $85 million dollars according to our source but we believe the figure could be anywhere between $70 and $90 million.

FilesX which originally started in Israel in 2000 is now based in Newton, Mass and has had $20 million in venture capital from Benchmark Capital, Genesis Partners and Index Ventures.
