Google Are Going To Change Their Algorithms
Google Operating System (unofficial news and tips about Google) has noticed that Google artificially promotes recent web pages: http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2008/01/google-artificially-promotes-recent-web.html
They even provided an example (at the above link) which is regarding the TCP/IP’s anniversary today. This has resulted in Google prefering more recent content which includes stuff like Digg over Wikipedia and other informative sites, which would normally be filling the top positions.
However, indexing recent posts has become a strength for Google. Look at “Blog Search” which has got Technorati struggling to keep up to the standard set by the indexing of recent posts. What has been revealed though has changed the thoughts about how Google are going to be ranking sites as the usual incoming authority links can’t really be associated to them now.
I’m starting to think that this could be Google’s plans for the future, especially with WikiaSearch in BETA, they could be creating a semantic search that educates itself by constantly updating the results to meet the users requirements at the time of the search but, if this is happening we should start to say goodbye to Google Pagerank.

This is nothing new. Google has been doing this for quite a while now. It’s the concept of balancing new, fresh content with older more established content. Another thing you’ll notice is that blog posts tend to drop off the SERPS as quickly as the got up there, so no fou, no harm done. Google is doing a far better job of maintaining curernt content with aged content.
