Microsoft Goes To YouTube To Advertise And Leaves Comments Open

December 31st, 2007 By Nicholas James

Microsoft has now gone to YouTube to advertise Windows Vista and Windows Live. The advertising is done by company offering demonstration videos on YouTube, which was launched on December 21, 2007.

You can see the channel here: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=WindowsVistaAndLive

The $500 million advertising campaign Microsoft launched at the start of the year is different to this type of advertising campaign, as this advertising campaign focuses much more on functionality with realistic end-user scenarios and benefits on how using Windows Vista, Live and Office can help the user to complete the tasks/job’s they need to.

The content that the videos contain isn’t really that entertaining. However they are produced reasonably well, and demonstrate numerous positive aspects of Vista and Live that users might realise existed.

It seems strange that Microsoft are using the Google owned YouTube for this type of promotion and after Microsoft stupidly leaving their comments open for users to post their opinions on the service. Especially with numerous users complaining about Vista and Microsoft-bashers are there, to let Microsoft know how they feel about Vista. I also doubt Google will help them in making sure the bashing content is removed considering the companies rivalry regarding the online advertising deal over DoubleClick.
