Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikia and Wikipedia has announced the Private BETA for Wikia Search, with a source telling me that the public launch will be in early 2008. The source wasn’t sure how early the public launch would be when I questioned him although he did reveal that the Public BETA would be around January to February with the January date being the one that Wikia were aiming for, although if any issues did arise because of the Private BETA they have the February date as backup.

This means that the wait for the search engine you’ve all been waiting for to attempt to, take a “huge dent” into Google’s power has arrived, in Private BETA. This also shows that Wikia live up to their promises as they announced the 2007 launch date for the Search Engine, showing that they are serious about trying to gain “huge” market share in the search engine market dominated by Google.
