2007: A Year In Review
Inspired by Tyler Cruz’s Recap of his goal for 2007, which can be seen here and a bunch of other things, I have decided to review 2007. Since I created Profit Baron back in October I can’t compare it to the goals noted down for you to read earlier on in the year, however, I did create some goals for myself to achieve.
These goals were:
- Average at $x,xxx/month online.
- Establish an effective working structure.
- Get Adsung launched and growing.
- Launch a “few” more projects and earn $xxx/month off them.
- Build on domain portfolio with higher end domains.
As you can see these, were my 5 main aims and objectives for 2007.
Goal 1: Average at $x,xxx/month online
I decided to create this goal because, the previous year I averaging at the high $xxx even though, I was having some nice months in the $x,xxx range. This was a relatively easy goal, since I was averaging $xxx the previous year and a goal in which I did achieve.
Goal 2: Establish an effective working structure
I decided to create this goal because, I procasinate online too much on MSN Messenger, DigitalPoint Forums etc. This goal was really a simple on to procrastionate less and compact my online time effectively and get the best ROI on my time.
This is debatable because, I still spend alot of time networking and talking to friends on MSN Messenger and I do visit forums such as DigitalPoint frequently. However, I do feel I have improved on my working structure but not as I would have liked when I originally stated this earlier in the year, therefore, I technically didn’t achieve this goal.
Goal 3: Get Adsung launched and growing
Since, I wanted to give the larger online advertising agencies a run for their money, I decided to launch Adsung.com and try and take a nice chunk of the market.
I have launched Adsungand it is growing but not at the rate I would like it too. As well as, this, my business model for it isn’t the most effective model in my opinion and most of the users agree especially since there have been alot of complications with the contextual aspects of the service (even though, it assesses 30+ aspects of your site to target you effectively).
Basically, I have achieved this goal but in 2008 you will see a different business model, to improve the publisher and advertiser relationship and give them both the best ROI. This will involve scrapping the contextual system and creating a “category based service” where advertisers and publishers target categories to show their advertisements from. Many users, have been involved with this service and have tested parts of it and say its a major improvement in increasing online revenues for both Advertiser and Publisher with this service looking to be implemented in 2008 and this goal virtually remaining the same as this year.
Goal 4: Launch a “few” more projects and earn $xxx/month off them
In the end, I ended up launching alot more then a few projects and didn’t make $xxx/month off the majority of them since, I sold the majority of them. This is due to the fact of time constraints and the fact that the markets most were in was becoming saturated, so there isn’t a point in investing into a saturated and potentially declining market.
I’d say most of them were bringing in high $xx - low $xxx but since there was more than a few and they all didn’t make it into the $xxx border, I’d classify this as a fail.
Goal 5: Build on domain portfolio with higher end domains
I bought quite a few LLLL.com’s before they all sold out as well as getting hold of some nice aged domains. However, I didn’t acquire the higher end domains I was after since I set a price for some of them I was after and since some people like to push up prices when I bid in certain places, I let them have them for inflated prices. Maybe, they will offer me them in 2008 for a realistic price, however, a realistic price now will be lower then the amount I was prepared to pay since, I want a better ROI for my money.
I’d classify this as a scrape of a pass. Since, I have acquired some nice aged domains, some LLLL.com’s before they sold out and a few other nice domains.
Overall, I passed 3 of my 5 goals. Which isn’t bad although I could have passed them all with a little push and/or focusing on only a few projects.
I’ll be posting my 2008 goals in the next few days which will include Profit Baron and Adsung obviously. I’m going to keep in mind the post I made about aims and objectives. However, I’m going to be ambitious and strive to ensure I complete all of my goals in 2008.
