Blog Branding 101

December 21st, 2007 By Nicholas James

Branding is one of the most important aspects of a business and like business, as your blog gets bigger your blog’s branding becomes more important. If you want to know why branding is needed, then you can read do so here.

As a blogger you should aim to separate yourself from the millions of blogs in the blogsphere. You should do this by creating your blog brand. This is because, by creating a brand, you have an advantage over blogs. Remember the better you have your branding the, your blog will be the one to receive better and more press than another blog even if you write about the same thing simply because, your blog has a brand name.

Step 1. Get Your Own Domain Name & Hosting

I bet you, don’t know how many blogs still don’t have their own domain name. You cannot build a brand without one, why do you think Blogtrepreneurwent from a simple blogspot domain, to hosting itself on its own domain? Adnan wanted to build a brand for his blog. I mean its not even expensive to get a domain and/or hosting.

Since you can register a domain for under $10 and hosting can be acquired for only a few dollars a month month. Like at Dreamhost you can get a massive $50 off hosting at Dreamhost by using “DMH50″ as the coupon code. I’m 100% sure you value your blog at more then just a few dollars and if you want to make the big bucks from your blog this is a step you must do to create your blog brand.

Since, being hosted by a free service doesn’t build your brand, it builds the brand of the hosting service. It is my opinion and probably everyone else’s who make a decent amount of money online that it is much better to start with your own domain from the start because, if you don’t you’ll lose all those links and search engine trust that was build up from the freely hosted blog and its like your starting a new blog all over again, which could have been avoided by that small investment in a domain and cheap hosting into your brand.

Step 2. Get Your Own Blog Design

You need your own unique blog design to stand out from the crowd. Which is why you should be be getting a completely new custom theme created by a service like Unique Blog Designs. This doesn’t just aide with helping your blog stand out from the crowd, which obviously helps branding because, it also allows you to make more money by increasing the amount of advertising spaces which become available. This is often underestimated by alot of bloggers, and with readers wanting your blog to be distinctive and unique. This means that it will increase your chances of them returning. Do you think Profit Baron got a unique design for any old reason?

Step 3. Create Your Own Logo

A logo is a definitely a great brand building tool. Look at all the big brand name products in the world, they all have logos. As it goes Profit Baron do have a logo, we’ve just not implemented it yet although we will be doing shortly.

Step 4. Have An About Page

Profit Baron’s about page needs to be redone.  This is why I won’t be using it as an example of an about page since, its not really giving the insight to readers about me.

Its like your blog’s resume and builds up trust with users, and when you build up trust not only are you improving your reputation your improving your brand. This means that, users will trust your blog more which in-turn will improve your advertising revenues, blog comments, technorati ranking, links to your blog off other blogs etc.
