For Sale: Social Bookmarking Site Only $77/User!
What if I was to say, you can own a large social bookmarking site for only $77/user or $300 Million. Would this interest you? My guess is probably not, but it seems that Digg are flaunting itself for sale for this figure according to VentureBeat.
Is this just another rumour?
Well here are previous rumours surrounding the sale of Digg:
- Kevin Burton was the first to bat with a statement that a sale of Digg to Yahoo was a near certainty in January 2006, for $30 million.
- However, we do know that Digg did try to sell itself to Yahoo, and probably others, for $20 million or more in May 2006. They didn’t receive an offer though.
- By the end of 2006 Digg were asking for $150 Million and turned down offers in around $100 million and during the end of 2006 Comscore claimed that Digg had just 1.3 million users.
- Digg continued discussions from late 2006 into early 2007. They were looking for $100 million + but no offers were made (I bet they wish they accepted one of those $100 Million offers, during this time).
- Digg in the last couple of months have been flaunting themselves for $200 million. However, they have received no offer.
- Now, Digg are flaunting themselves for only $77/user - $300 million, with reports of an imminent sale!
However, its my personal belief that Digg are falling rapidly. They are doing things because the users are forcing them too and not because, its making perfect business sense like the introductions of videos and images.
Digg doesn’t really give you loads of traffic when you hit the frontpage, just boost up your Alexa ranking and impressions.
Whats your opinion?

You need to visit your site with the toolbar and widget installed. You might not see immediate impact but if you keep looking throughout your own site pages you will notice a ranking improvement.
